Chapter 3 Initiating an Expanded Process for Integrating “Just-in-Time” Mathematics Instruction
Changing from three three-week courses to two five-week courses had primarily involved rearranging content as the faculty had shifted topics among already well-defined courses. A major change, however, involved eliminating the mathematical methods capstone course and distributing its appropriate content across all six five-week paradigms in physics courses. Discussed below are aspects of the evolution of the process for integrating mathematics instruction into the junior-level paradigms in physics courses, the goals of the “math bits” sessions in these courses, challenges in undertaking this effort, surprises experienced, and aspects that went well.
